Ski rental or full board: which stay is really the most advantageous 2
    DR
    29 October 2026 17:26

Skiing accommodation or full board: which is the most advantageous option?

Between renting an apartment and spending a ski holiday with full board, the choice seems simple: on the one hand, the freedom to organize one’s own schedule; on the other, the comfort of not having to cook. Yet, when you add up the expenses and the time spent on logistics, the comparison becomes more interesting. And what if the All-inclusive ski holiday Wasn’t it necessarily more expensive than a traditional rental?

The advertised price does not tell the whole story

Let’s take a family of two adults and two children who goes skiing for a week. They find an apartment for 1,200 € and a full-board stay for 2,300 €. At first glance, the rental seems much more advantageous.

But it still takes four people to feed for seven days. With a budget of 35 € per day for groceries, two lunches at the altitude restaurant and a few extras, the bill can quickly reach 450 to 550 €.

The rental then costs about €1,700, compared to €2,300 for the full pension. The difference still exists, but it is no longer €1,100.

    ADVERTISING

These amounts are fictitious examples, and not actual rates. They mainly illustrate the importance of comparing equivalent services with identical station and period.

Another point to check: ski passes, equipment and lessons are not automatically included in a full board package.

The rental: economical, provided you play by the rules

Renting has an obvious advantage: it allows you to control your expenses. Preparing your own meals, taking a picnic on the slopes, and avoiding restaurants can significantly reduce the budget.

But this economy requires a minimum of organization.

On Saturdays, after several hours of driving, you sometimes still have to run errands. Every night, someone has to prepare dinner and then clean up the kitchen. For some, this way of working is part of the pleasure of the holidays. For others, it feels a bit too much like everyday life.

Skiing accommodation or full board: which stay is really the most advantageous 2
    DR

The rental is particularly attractive for groups of friends who share the costs or families accustomed to cooking together.

The Club Residences offer just that kind of autonomy, with equipped apartments and, depending on the establishment, additional services such as wellness areas or children's clubs.

Full pension: the real benefit is also measured in terms of time

Imagine a typical day skiing with two children.

After preparing everyone, collecting the skis and heading to the slopes, the morning passes quickly. At noon, we need to find somewhere to have lunch. In the late afternoon, the children are tired and we still have dinner to organize.

With a full pension, a large part of this logistics disappears.

Breakfast is ready, lunch is planned, and dinner requires no preparation. For parents, this free time can make a real difference.

In the Villages Club, the food is accompanied by services and activities adapted to families. The children’s clubs, when offered for the relevant age groups, also allow parents to enjoy their days differently.

The main drawback remains a lack of freedom: meals are organized according to the hotel’s schedule, which may not be suitable for all holidaymakers.

And the all-inclusive ski holiday in all of this?

That’s where a distinction needs to be made: full board and all-inclusive ski holidays do not necessarily mean the same thing.

The full pension usually includes accommodation and three daily meals. A fully-inclusive ski holiday can go further by combining, depending on the offers, lift passes, equipment or ski lessons.

The interest is not solely financial. Booking a separate apartment, four packages, equipment and courses requires time. Packaged formulas allow for the centralization of several services and the early knowledge of a large part of the budget.

However, the details of the offers must be examined: a package is not systematically less expensive than separate reservations.

    So, which formula to choose?

For a family that wants to limit expenses first and foremost and that agrees to prepare its own meals, renting remains often a viable solution.

For parents with young children, a full pension may justify its additional cost due to the daily comfort and services offered.

Finally, for those who want to avoid having to make multiple reservations, a fully-inclusive ski holiday is worth considering, whether it’s accommodation in a residence or in a Village Club.

The best choice is therefore not necessarily the one that has the lowest price, but the one that suits your way of enjoying your vacation. After all, a week in the mountains should also allow you to take a break from everyday life.
