€4.8 million invested, 1,400 skiers per hour… La Rosière is modernising one of its chairlifts this winter

In La Rosière, the 2026-2027 winter season will be marked by the modernisation of the Petit-Bois sector. The Haute-Tarentaise resort is replacing one of its ski lifts with a four-seater chairlift, designed in France, representing an investment of 4.8 million euros. The stated aim? To improve comfort and smooth out traffic flow in this part of the ski area.

With the return of the first skiers just a few weeks away, work is continuing in the Petit-Bois area. La Rosière chose to replace the existing equipment with a four-seater chairlift built by GMM, a company from Grenoble specialising in ski lifts.

Equipped with a boarding conveyor belt, the future ski lift will be able to transport up to 1,400 people per hour. A capacity designed to facilitate transit and improve comfort in this sector of the ski area.

An investment of €4.8 million

The project represents a budget of 4.8 million euros. La Rosière also highlights the French manufacture of the new equipment, entrusted to a manufacturer based in Isère.

This modernisation takes place on a ski area that spans both sides of the border. The Espace San Bernardo brings together 156 kilometres of pistes between La Rosière and La Thuile, in the Aosta Valley.

For the 2026-2027 season, opening is announced from 12 December to 17 April, with an adult day pass set at 59 euros. On the French side, the highest point reaches an altitude of 2,800 metres and 83 % of the slopes are located above 1,850 metres.

The old seats sold in aid of Mountain Riders

The replacement of the ski lift does not, however, spell the end for all of the old equipment. Part of the chairs was put up for online auction to give them a second lease of life.

The funds raised are to be donated to Mountain Riders, an association committed to waste reduction and the ecological transition in the mountains. This is a way for the ski resort to pair the renewal of its infrastructure with a reuse initiative.

Petit-Bois's new lift will thus be one of La Rosière's main visible developments for the upcoming season, as the Espace San Bernardo welcomes skiers back from 12 December.
