What if, in the mountains, adventure could also be found in the pages of a book? From 26 to 29 March 2026, Vaujany welcomes the 5ᵉ edition of Cascade de Livres, a singular festival that turns children's literature and fantasy into a veritable cultural playground in the heart of the Alps.
At a time when screens are capturing more and more of young people's attention, the village resort is going against the grain: putting books back at the centre, encouraging encounters with authors and making reading a living, shared and accessible experience.
A literary festival designed to communicate
Supported by the Pôle Culturel de Vaujany, in close collaboration with local schools and a host of local partners, Cascade de Livres has established itself over the last few years as one of the most popular book fairs in France. as a special event. Neither an impersonal exhibition nor an elitist event, the festival takes an immersive, educational and intergenerational approach.
For four days, some fifteen authors, illustrators and artists will be taking over the resort's cultural venues - media library, museum, cinema, village hall - to offer a dense but easy-to-understand programme designed for children and adults alike.
Young people at the heart of the project
The first two days are largely devoted to schoolchildren, from nursery to CM2. Schools in Vaujany, Allemond, Bourg-d'Oisans, Gavet and Vizille are all actively involved in this initiative.
Illustration workshops, musical readings, a literary escape game, an introduction to writing or drawing... Here, literature is experienced as an exploration, encouraging creativity, personal expression and the imagination. It's a way of promoting cultural emancipation, far removed from the passive use of screens.
Events open to the general public
Cascade de Livres is not just for young audiences. The festival is wide open to families, holidaymakers and literature lovers, with a number of highlights accessible to all:
- Literary events with three renowned female novelists, focusing on contemporary writing
- Film-debate about the adaptation of a novel into a television series
- Family show, with Romeo and Juliet on the sly, a playful and accessible retelling of Shakespeare's classic.
- Big signing session, A friendly Sunday afternoon
Not forgetting the festival tombola, organised in aid of the Pôle Culturel, a symbol of an event that is deeply rooted in local life.
Renowned guests to fuel the imagination
The 2026 edition will bring together a number of major figures in children's and contemporary literature:
- Ramona Bădescu, a leading author of children's literature, translated into some twenty languages, will be leading a writing workshop open to children aged 8 and over and adults.
- Christos, author and performer, will be putting on a sound show for toddlers and a fun workshop combining humour, poetry and reflection.
- Violaine Costa, the internationally acclaimed children's illustrator, will be leading a pop-up workshop on creating paper backdrops.
- Frédérique Deghelt, a novelist and former AFP journalist, will be taking part in a number of meetings with adults and a literary breakfast.
Vaujany, a high-altitude cultural laboratory
With its media library, museum and active cultural programme throughout the year, Vaujany is confirming its commitment to the idea that the mountains are not just a place for sporting leisure activities, but also a place for creativity, transmission and intellectual curiosity.
In five editions, Cascade de Livres has become a strong marker of this identity. Proof that even at altitude, culture can be just as attractive as skiing or hiking.
