The village of Courchevel Le Praz is getting ready to immerse itself in the festive atmosphere of yesteryear. On 26 and 27 July, the traditional Fête de la Madelon will set the heart of this Savoyard hamlet beating with its heritage, music and conviviality.
Celebrated since the Middle Ages in honour of Saint Mary Magdalene, the village's patron saint, the Madelon has become a highlight of local life over the centuries. Around its 15th-century chapel, the villagers used to gather to honour their customs and share a special community moment.

After falling into disuse, the festival was relaunched by the association La Route des Tommes, determined to perpetuate this heritage event. Even today, it brings back to life the gestures, costumes and atmosphere of village festivals of yesteryear, in a unique setting: the cobbled streets of Le Praz and the peaceful shores of its lake.
Soup, a symbol of sharing
At the heart of the event is a ritual that has brought the locals together for generations: the soup kitchen. Prepared the day before in a huge 600-litre cauldron and stirred by hand in front of the chapel, it simmers for a long time before being served in loaves of bread. More than just a meal, this collective dish embodies the spirit of solidarity and celebration that drives the community.

While tradition remains at the heart of the Madelon, the festival has no shortage of rhythm. Accordions, alphorns and festive groups accompany visitors throughout the evening. Concerts, dancing and singing under the lanterns transform the alleyways into an open-air folk dance, where locals and holidaymakers come together in a warm and joyous atmosphere.
The Fête de la Madelon promises a weekend of village memories and sharing, where heritage meets celebration, for an authentic experience in the heart of the Alps.
