For nearly half a century, the Grand Prix Cycliste had disappeared from the local scene. On 4 and 5 July, this historic event will be revived in Gets under the impetus of the association of Wetzlar.
For forty-five years, it was nothing more than a memory in the minds of a few enthusiasts. This summer, however, the Grand Prix Cycliste des Gets will be brought back to life.
On 4 and 5 July 2026, the Wetzayers association will relaunch this road cycling competition that once marked the sports scene of the resort. A revival that should delight fans of alpine climbs and lovers of mountain roads.
Seven climbs to separate the climbers
The principle is simple: accumulate ascents on the iconic roads of Les Gets. The final ranking will be established by adding the times achieved on several timed climbs, spread throughout the weekend.
The heart of the event will take place on Saturday, July 4th with the Grand Prix. Participants will have to complete seven timed special stages starting from the village centre.
In total, the route covers 63 kilometres and 2,180 metres of positive elevation gain. A demanding format that should put the legs to the test while offering spectacular panoramas of the Chablais mountains.
For cyclists wishing to spread the effort, organisers will also offer a two-day format dubbed «Les Grimpées» and «Le Petit Braquet». A formula allowing the climbs to be spread over the entire weekend.
Open to enthusiasts and amateurs alike
One of the stated aims of the organisers is to make the event accessible to as many people as possible.
The race is open to participants aged 12 and over and is aimed at both experienced climbers and casual cyclists looking for a personal challenge. The only condition is to participate with a non-electric bicycle. Electric bikes will not be allowed.
Road or gravel, it doesn't matter. The spirit of the event is above all about the pleasure of cycling in the mountains.

Behind this return are the Wetzayers, an association well-known in Les Gets for organising sporting events for over twenty years.
They are notable for the Alambike and the Ebouelle Contest. This experience has allowed them to develop a particular philosophy: to make the atmosphere as important an element as sporting performance.
So, Saturday's day will be extended by an evening open to all with food, entertainment and concerts in the heart of the village.
