À Orcières Merlette 1850, Winter isn't just about the slopes. The Hautes-Alpes resort has prepared a season packed with festive, sporting and family events. From Father Christmas to major international competitions, there's plenty to look forward to in the heart of the Écrins.
Father Christmas makes a stopover in Orcières
It's impossible to imagine Christmas in the mountains without a special guest. On 25 December, Father Christmas himself will be handing out presents to the resort's children.
From dawn onwards, he'll be wandering through the chalets and residences, snow-covered hat and big beard blowing in the wind, to slip surprises and sweets into people's homes. Families are invited to register at the Tourist Office to take part in this magical event, which is guaranteed to wake the little ones up in wonder... and take parents back to childhood.
Women's Alpine Skiing European Cup
From 26 to 30 January 2026, Europe's best female skiers will be competing on the legendary Camille Ricou piste.
On the programme: speed, technical skills, commitment and a rare spectacle for the holidaymakers who come to cheer on the champions. Whether it's Super-G or downhill, the atmosphere at the foot of the resort is sure to be electric, providing the perfect opportunity to admire the elite of women's alpine skiing at close quarters.
The Trail Étoilé, a race under the stars
On 10 January, the mountains can be appreciated by headlamp. More than 300 participants will set off at night on the Trail Étoilé, a frosty route through the magnificent scenery of the Écrins.
No spotlights or big effects: just crunching snow, breath, and the glittering sky as the only ceiling. A sporting and poetic experience, tailor-made for lovers of the authentic mountain.
European Cup & French Snowboard Championships
From 30 March to 5 April 2026, Orcières will be living to the rhythm of the boards and the committed turns. Taut slaloms, massive jumps, precision runs: the resort will first host the European Snowboardcross Cup, then the French Championships.
These two major events will bring together established athletes, budding champions and passionate supporters. A great way to end the season with a mix of adrenalin, spectacle and festivities, with the spring snow as a backdrop.
