They have seen generations of skiers come and go, grazed the snowy peaks and cradled countless memories of descents with family and friends. After more than twenty years of loyal service, the mythical cabins of the Roche de Mio gondola lift, at La Plagneare drawing to a close.
And to mark the occasion, they are being offered one last trip... to the most passionate. On Saturday 28 June, 109 iconic cabins will be auctioned off. A unique sale, organised right in the heart of the Savoyard resort, giving mountain lovers the chance to walk away with an authentic piece of their favourite domain.
With their panoramic profile and vintage look, these cabins are reminiscent of the 2000s, of festive resorts and endless skiing. It's the turning of a page, but also the beginning of a new era. This symbolic sale is part of a vast project to renovate the link between Plagne Bellecôte and Roche de Mio, the nerve centre of the ski area.
New life for the cabins
The new, faster, more modern gondola will welcome its first passengers in December 2025. In the meantime, the old cabins are being given a new lease of life: decorative use, an unusual garden shed, a panoramic lounge... there's no shortage of ideas for giving them a second life.
