At an altitude of 1,850 metres, at the foot of the snow front, and up to 2,725 metres at the summit, Orcières Merlette 1850 continues to assert its identity as a major resort in the Southern Alps. While skiing, with its 100 kilometres of slopes, remains the main economic driver, the destination is now based on a "resort" approach, conceived as a single place where tourist experiences, services and leisure activities are concentrated, winter and summer alike.
The Palais des Sports will be undergoing a complete renovation between autumn 2025 and December 2026.
The aim is to reduce energy consumption, optimise traffic flows and rethink the layout of the resort. At the end of the works, the resort will have an enlarged bowling alley, a panoramic spa, a modernised sports hall and a renovated aqualudic area.
Another major project is the reconfiguration of the Tourist Office square, scheduled for winter 2027-2028. The current car park will be replaced by an underground car park with 660 spaces. Above ground, a new 400 m² area will be created to host markets, concerts, shows and local events.
Diversification and showcasing nature
The wood-fired heating network is also continuing to expand. Already comprising five boiler rooms, it will be strengthened by a sixth installation designed to supply seasonal workers' residences.

Orcières Merlette 1850 is focusing on accessibility and quality of life in the resort: pedestrianisation of certain areas, easier movement on foot and the introduction of free shuttles.
The aim of the estate is to enhance the landscapes at the gateway to the Ecrins National Park.
More accommodation on offer
Areas such as Rocherousse, where the resort disappears from view, or the leisure centre in the valley where the Nordic runs run through, highlight the experience of unspoilt nature.
Diversification also includes contemplative activities. The World of 6 Lakes summer itinerary, punctuated by artistic interventions, illustrates this desire to offer experiences where discovery and environmental awareness go hand in hand.
Finally, the resort is continuing to help owners renovate their furnished tourist accommodation. Over 200 flats have already been awarded the Quality Comfort AccommodationThis will significantly improve the seasonal rental offer and help to raise the level of comfort offered to holidaymakers.
