The Hautes-Alpes resort is modernising its ski area this winter with the replacement of the Rocher de l'Aigle chairlift with a new gondola lift.
With 10 seats per gondola and a journey time divided by three, with a speed of 7 metres per second compared with 2.5 metres for the old chairlift, the Rocher de l'Aigle link promises to be very busy at the start of the new ski season.
Improving links with Italian estates
The new gondola also requires fewer towers, down from 24 to 11. The old chairlift has been "recycled to 95%". The concrete foundations of the old towers have been demolished.
According to the resort, the new lift will improve links with the Italian Monts de la Lune and Milky Way ski areas.
The Montgenèvre ski area is open at weekends in November and every day from 2 December to 20 April.
