While the ski season is in full swing in many French resorts, Le Petit Montagnard has taken a look at the other countries in Europe (Austria, Switzerland, Italy...) where it is also possible to stay and spend a pleasant holiday in the snow.

1. Zermatt
This resort is one of the top winter sports destinations in southern Switzerland.
Zermatt lies to the north of the famous Matterhorn and offers over 200 kilometres of pistes suitable for all levels, ideal for intermediate skiers.
The view of the Matterhorn, one of the most iconic peaks in the Alps, adds a spectacular dimension to the skiing experience.
Visitors can also take advantage of a link to Italy. And for après-ski lovers, Zermatt offers a lively resort life with shops, restaurants and events throughout the winter.

2. Saint-Moritz
Located in the canton of Grison, it is the most luxurious resort in the country. Saint-Moritz attracts millionaires from all over the world every year, just like Courchevel in France, with its luxury hotels, top-of-the-range boutiques and Michelin-starred restaurants.
Nevertheless, it remains a ski resort accessible to all, with its museums, snowshoeing trails and Nordic skiing. The ski area is renowned the world over.
It hosted two editions of the Winter Olympics in 1928 and 1948. With a total of 350 kilometres of slopes, Saint-Moritz also offers exceptional winter attractions such as the Cresta bobsleigh run and a frozen lake.

3. Verbier
Verbier is a resort renowned for its off-piste skiing and steep descents, particularly the Tortin, which is ranked as one of the steepest slopes in Europe. Verbier attracts thrill-seekers.
The resort is part of the huge 4 Vallées ski area, with 410 kilometres of pistes to suit all abilities. Quite simply, it's the largest Alpine ski area in Switzerland. It offers breathtaking views of the Matterhorn and the Mont Blanc.
The resort has been ranked at the top of the world's best ski destinations since 2018, although this year, it was Val Thorens that came out on top.

4. Gstaad
The Gstaadclose to the capital, is often regarded as one of Switzerland's best ski resorts. With over 200 kilometres of pistes and top-quality lifts, some of which open at night, it attracts skiers from all over Europe.
Located in the south-west of Switzerland, Gstaad offers wide slopes and lifts suitable for children and beginners, ideal for families.
As well as skiing, Gstaad offers a wide range of winter activities, including tobogganing, ice skating, snowshoe trekking and even hot air ballooning, providing entertainment to suit all tastes.

5. Grindelwald
This ski resort in the canton of Bern boasts over 200 kilometres of pistes, plus a Snow Fun Park for thrill-seekers.
Nestling in the heart of a valley surrounded by the Eiger, Jungfrau and Mönch mountains, Grindelwald is set against a spectacular backdrop. The resort has even become a popular film location, hosting a number of productions including James Bond and Star Wars.
