In the heart of the 3 Valleys, where the forests open out onto infinite horizons, Méribel is home to an unsuspected treasure. The Plan de Tuéda nature reserve, a jewel box of biodiversity nestling between the lake of the same name and the Gébroulaz glacier, is much more than a protected site: it's a permanent invitation to marvel.
Created in 1990, this unspoilt oasis extends over 1,100 hectares of varied landscape, home to 545 plant species and almost 400 animal species. Here, black grouse meet the discreet flight of spotted nutcrackers, while alpine newts, viviparous lizards, rare butterflies and cordula dragonflies live to the rhythm of the seasons.

But more than a catalogue of species, Tuéda is a total sensory experience. In summer, the meadows light up with wild flowers and the stone pines whisper in the warm breeze. In autumn, the forest blazes with hues worthy of Canada. In winter, the whiteness of the frozen expanses invites silent contemplation.
The Maison de la Réserve: a gateway to the invisible
The starting point for many walks, the Maison de la Réserve on the shores of the lake is much more than just a visitor centre. It is a living showcase for this natural world. On its terrace, the light plays with the reflections of the water.
Inside, the exhibitions, fun workshops for children, fascinating lectures and naturalist events turn your visit into a real educational adventure.
Games, stories, riddles (thanks to Explor Games®, free of charge), as well as expert advice on how to venture safely to the gates of the Vanoise National Park: everything is designed to welcome families, the curious and lovers of the great outdoors.
An area to explore to your heart's content
Whether you're a seasoned hiker or just a leisurely stroller, Tuéda offers a range of accessible and challenging routes, from around the lake for families to the trails to the refuge du Saut for the more athletic.

Along the way, you might come across a marmot in the sun or an ibex on the ridge. Mountain bikers will also find plenty to do on the signposted routes up to the panoramic heights.
And when is it time for a break? A family picnic on the banks of the lake, a blueberry tart in the refuge, or simply a moment to savour the raw beauty of the landscape.
