Pralognan-la-Vanoise - A new chapter is opening up for this iconic Savoyard resort, nestling at the foot of the Vanoise National Park. The town council has just entrusted the development and operation of its mountain resort to Compagnie des Alpes (CDA), a major player in alpine tourism, for the next twenty-five years.
Dominique Thillaud, Chief Executive Officer of the Group, salutes "the confidence of an exceptional region and evokes "a great source of pride for its teams.
For the CDA, this public service contract strengthens an already solid portfolio of emblematic resorts, by integrating a site with a unique profile, still firmly rooted in a village model.
A high-altitude region with a "Little Chamonix" feel
With its 740 year-round residents, 9,600 tourist beds, tightly-packed chalets and church with its bulbous bell tower, Pralognan-la-Vanoise cultivates a rare charm, far removed from the standards of mass industry.
At an altitude of 1,400 metres, the resort boasts dynamic summer visitor numbers - over 40 % of annual overnight stays - an alpine ski area rising to 2,400 metres and 27 kilometres of Nordic ski runs, popular with cross-country skiers and runners alike.
The uniqueness of this site lies not only in its scenery, but also in its particularly stable snow conditions, guaranteed by a favourable microclimate.
A discreet but strategic rise
This is a key factor for the CDA, which intends to develop a four-season mountain model. "Pralognan has many assets that often complement those of our other estates. says David Ponson, Director of the Ski Areas and Outdoor Activities Division.
This new contract, which will take effect on 1 November 2025, is estimated to generate cumulative sales of around 300 million euros over its lifetime. It confirms the Group's targeted expansion strategy, focused on areas with high diversification potential, combining natural heritage, sustainable tourism and a wider range of activities.
Over the coming months, the challenge will be to integrate the local teams smoothly, structure the offering around the seasons, and strengthen Pralognan's position as the real gateway to the Vanoise. "Thanks to our expertise, we hold all the cards to boost the appeal of this destination". concludes David Ponson.
