Local history has a lot to do with it: in the past, holidaymakers would go up to the Grande Motte glacier first thing in the morning to ski, before looking for a complementary activity in the afternoon.
Facilities to suit all tastes
This dynamic has given rise to a range of sports facilities that is far from running out of steam, has grown stronger over the years.
In summer, the My Tignes card gives you access to a wide range of activitiesThese include a water sports centre on a natural lake at an altitude of over 2,000 m (canoeing, kayaking, slides and water jumps), an adventure course and zip lines, tennis courts and football pitches, and an 18-hole golf course nicknamed "le golf des marmottes".

There's also an internationally renowned bike park, linked to the one in Val d'Isère, which appeals to both serious downhill enthusiasts and families on electric mountain bike tours.
The facilities are also home to major teams and top-level sportsmen and women. "Every summer, we welcome professional clubs, national teams, cyclists, French teams...". stresses Fabrice Maleville. "It contributes to the reputation of Tignes, and is also a source of pride for the local people.
Two padel courts planned
After the recent opening of Aventure Parc and a new skatepark, this year the resort is preparing to add two padel courts in the Tignes-le-Lac sector.
"It's an activity that's growing everywhere, and Tignes had to be part of it. Another change is the development of a winter Adventure Park, to offer a fun and sporting counterpart even in the cold season.

These efforts are also reflected in events with a strong identity, such as Mountain Shaker Été, the summer version of the winter freestyle event, and the Tignes Trail, which attracts a huge number of participants every year.
A new disabled sports event in 2027
And by 2027, the resort will be hosting a major event: the Para-Alpine Skiing World Championships, confirming its historic commitment to sport for all and to disabled sport.

As well as the occasional holidaymaker, Tignes has a real local sporting culture, closely linked to its Sports Club. The Club trains hundreds of young people every yearSome of them go on to become ski patrollers, instructors or top-level athletes.
"The club is a social and educational cement, and we work hand in hand to ensure that it benefits from all the infrastructures.
In Tignes, being sporty isn't an extra, it's almost a given. Between family activities, professional training and new trends such as padel, the resort is more than ever confirming its status as a mecca for sports at altitude.
