À Courchevel, The end of March is not just about great skiing. Between line races, freestyle contests and a festive atmosphere, the Savoyard resort is transforming its slopes into a veritable playground. Three events, on 21, 25 and 29 March, promise a high-intensity end to the season.
The Derby du Bouc Blanc kicks off on 21 March at La Tania. A challenging course, a line start and just one rule: go as fast as you can.
From the summit of the Eclipse, at an altitude of more than 2,200 metres, participants set off in waves along a signposted course, with technical sections and long, fast sections up to an altitude of 1,500 metres. Skiers, snowboarders and monoskiers all start with helmets on.
The atmosphere doesn't stop at the finish line. In the afternoon, the snow front comes alive, before a concert and prize-giving ceremony at the end of the day.
The same spirit will prevail on 29 March in Courchevel Moriond with the Derby du Roc Merlet, organised when the pistes are closed. It's a rawer event, where the descent is made in the fading light, under the watchful eye of the piste patrollers.
Freestyle, music and ride spirit
Between these two highlights, there's a change of scenery on 25 March with the «Prends Ta Luge» competition, organised in conjunction with Family Park.
There's no time limit here. It's all about style, creativity and the snowpark atmosphere. At the end of the morning, riders and curious onlookers gather around a barbecue before giving way to the contest, open to all.
Equipment tests, meetings with riders and a freestyle session set the pace for the day, before an after-party at 10.30pm to extend the evening.
Through these three events, Courchevel is betting on a dynamic end to the season, where skiing can also be enjoyed off the slopes.
Races, shows, music... the village and the snow fronts become living spaces in their own right. On March 29, the Rue des Marquis will even be transformed into an open stage with a street party combining DJ sets, concerts and entertainment.
