From 26 to 29 March, the Snowkite Masters Serre Chevalier 2026 takes place on the Col du Lautaret, at an altitude of over 2,000 metres. For four days, this legendary spot in the Alps will be the setting for a unique aerial show, featuring the French freestyle championships, initiations and an end-of-season atmosphere.
Here, it's not the slope that makes the difference, but the wind. At Le Lautaret, riders don't just go downhill. They go up, accelerate and take off.
Snowkiting, often described as the winter version of kitesurfing, transforms the mountains into an area of total freedom. The sail pulls the skier or snowboarder, allowing him or her to link trajectories and soar above the terrain.
If the site has become a world reference, it's not by chance. Exposed to the weather and open to several valleys, the pass offers ideal conditions, whatever the wind. The result? For over twenty years, the best riders have been meeting here.
A French championship at the summit
This 2026 edition takes on a special dimension with the hosting of the French freestyle championship, under the aegis of the Fédération Française de Vol Libre.
Throughout the weekend, the riders battle it out with aerial tricks, committed jumps and technical tricks in a bid to win the title.
They include well-known names in the sport such as Guillaume Chastagnol and Didier Botta, as well as a new generation determined to shake up the hierarchy.
«Snowkiting is freedom, the wind decides».» sums up the federation, which has supported the development of the sport since its beginnings.
An open and accessible event
As well as competition, the Snowkite Masters are also about sharing. Introductory courses will be on offer throughout the weekend for those curious enough to discover this still confidential discipline.
On site, a village comes to life opposite the Lautaret Lodge, with entertainment, equipment tests and meetings with riders. The evenings then continue in the establishments on the pass, in a more festive atmosphere.
The highlight of the weekend, on Sunday, is a «Ride for fun” event open to all, breaking with the codes of pure competition and putting the fun back into the game.
