It's a major project which is redesigning the heart of the ski area at La Plagne. From December 2025, skiers will be able to take a completely redesigned gondola lift to Roche de Mio (2,739 m), with the promise of faster, smoother and more comfortable access to high altitude.
The new line, equipped with 168 10-seater gondolas, will link Roche de Mio in two stages, followed by Les Glaciers (inaugurated in 2023), and will provide access to an altitude of 3,080 metres in less time. The result will be a better-distributed flow of passengers, less waiting on the snow front and a revamped experience.
A new route and an intermediate station
As a major innovation, the gondola will now stop at the Col de Forcle (2,273 m), before continuing its ascent. This intermediate station opens up new possibilities: easy return to Plagne Bellecôte and Belle Plagne, or switch to Champagny-en-Vanoise on the south side. In both summer and winter, it will offer a wider choice of itineraries and simplified access points.
At 37 metres high, the largest pylon is the equivalent of a twelve-storey building. Capable of transporting up to 3,140 people per hour, the installation stands out for its unprecedented assembly in France: a site entirely in-house by the Société d'Aménagement de la Plagne (SAP), in collaboration with the manufacturer POMA.
A technical feat that illustrates La Plagne's determination to innovate while retaining control of its development projects.
"A rethought customer experience
For Nicolas Provendie, Managing Director of SAP, this is a real turning point. "This is a major change for the ski area. As well as renovating the gondola, we're rethinking the customer experience by introducing new services. We're always aiming for excellence.
Open all year round, the Roche de Mio gondola lift will become the new backbone of La PlagneThis makes it easier to reach heights of 3,000 metres and offers unprecedented comfort for skiers and summer walkers alike.
