From the end of June to the end of August, the Belleville valley is packed with sporting, festive and cultural events. From mountain bike competitions to village fetes and new events, the summer season promises to be packed with activities for all ages. Menuires and Saint-Martin-de-Belleville.
The season kicks off on 28 June with the Mill and Sustainable Energy Festival in Saint-Martin-de-Belleville. Organised around the Burdin mill, the festival features events and demonstrations to immerse visitors in the local history and know-how of the valley.
At the beginning of July, a more unusual event takes place with the soapbox races. Three dates are scheduled, on 5 July, 14 July and 5 August, in different villages. Participants take to the track on specially laid-out courses, watched by an often large crowd.
On a quieter note, the first International Chess Open is being held from 11 to 18 July. The tournament brings together amateur and experienced players in a series of competitions organised in the resort.
Mountain biking and major events in the heart of summer
The second half of July marks a step up. From 22 to 25 July, Les Menuires hosts the French downhill mountain bike championships. The best national riders meet on a technical course shaped by the Alpine terrain.
A few days later, on 24 and 25 July, the craft beer festival celebrates local producers. Tastings, concerts and workshops punctuate the two days, with a mixed audience of locals and visitors.
August kicks off with the Enduro des Alpes trophy on August 1 and 2. The event, which links several sectors of the valley, features demanding routes with several timed special stages.
There are a number of new features on the summer programme this year. From 7 to 9 August, the Val Tho Summit Games introduces a four-man relay over a distance of 42 kilometres. The event is designed to be accessible to different profiles, with a team format.
At the end of the month, on 28 and 29 August, the Epeak festival takes place in Saint-Martin-de-Belleville. The event combines sports initiation, workshops and concerts, with a focus on outdoor activities and environmental issues.
