The Grand Tourmalet ski area, which brings together the villages of Barèges and La Mongie, has added a major new facility this season: the Les Quatre Termes chairlift. Due to be inaugurated in December, it promises to transform the experience for skiers and hikers in both winter and summer.
After decades of loyal service, the old Quatre Termes two-seater chairlift, which dates back to the 1980s, was replaced over the summer.
Faster, safer and more modern, this new chairlift is a real revolution for the sector. It is now capable of transporting 1,200 people an hour to an altitude of 2,500 metres, the highest point in La Mongie.
An iconic track and new possibilities
With its 10 pylons and 80 four-seater seats, this strategic investment meets the expectations of alpine skiers, off-piste enthusiasts and hikers.
The Les Quatre Termes chairlift serves the run of the same name, an emblematic descent of the Grand Tourmalet.

Known for its excellent snow cover, this piste has long attracted thrill-seekers.
But this new facility doesn't stop there: it also opens up new routes for ski touring and off-piste skiing, making the area even more attractive to skiers looking for variety.
A chairlift designed for winter and summer
While winter remains the Grand Tourmalet's flagship season, the Les Quatre Termes chairlift has also been designed for summer use.
Hikers can use it to gain easy access to the Néouvielle Nature Reserve, a site renowned for its breathtaking scenery and exceptional biodiversity. This four-season aspect makes the ski area even more attractive outside the ski season.
It meets the needs of a sector that is very popular with alpine skiers and ski tourers. By combining performance, safety and comfort, the Les Quatre Termes chairlift is part of a modern and sustainable vision for the development of the ski area.
