L'Alpe d'HuezFrance's outdoor mecca, is bursting at the seams with events this summer. From mountain biking to trail running, triathlons, solidarity challenges, climbing and legendary cycling routes, the Isère resort has a packed calendar of events. Here's a round-up of events not to be missed.
5 June - Alpe d'HuZes: climbing to beat cancer
A symbol of courage and solidarity, the Alpe d'HuZes is a charity event in which participants, on foot or by bike, climb the legendary Alpe d'Huez ascent up to six times. Last year, this Dutch challenge raised over 18 million euros for cancer research. It's not just a sporting event, it's a day where emotion takes precedence over achievement.
4 to 6 July - Mégavalanche: 30 years of downhill hell
The Mégavalanche celebrates its 30ᵉ edition in 2025. Starting at an altitude of 3,330m on the Sarenne glacier, this mass-start downhill mountain bike race stretches over 2,600m of negative altitude difference to Allemond.

A legend of mountain biking, where pros and amateurs challenge each other in an electric atmosphere. New this year: the Mégavalanche Trail, a 21km running 100 % downhill version, on 6 July.
18 and 19 July - Oisans Trail Tour: the challenge of the crests
This is one of the major trail events of the summer. The Oisans Trail Tour crosses five resorts in the massif, with formats to suit all abilities (from 11 to 87 km). An immersion into the wild landscapes of the Oisans, for runners in search of altitude differences, authenticity and wide open spaces.
19 and 20 July - Vauban Mountain Trail: the world cup in Briançon
Just a few kilometres from Alpe d'Huez, Briançon hosts the only two French stages of the Mountain Running World Cup, as part of the Vauban Mountain Trail.

Two routes: a 6km dry climb on 19 July and a 14km short race on 20 July. All set against a unique backdrop of UNESCO-listed fortifications.
28 to 31 July - Alpe d'Huez Triathlon: 4,000 athletes at the déparT
The Alpe d'Huez Triathlon is the world's premier summer race. With its 21 legendary bends, it attracts more than 4,000 participants over several formats, including a long-distance triathlon renowned for its demanding standards. It's a competition that combines performance and family tradition, particularly in the children's events.
13 to 18 August - Challenge Cécile Narcy: the local version of the trail
A challenge over six days and four races (Grimpée du Signal, Alpe Express, Pic de l'Alpe and Alpe 21) to combine effort, scenery and emotion. The Challenge Cécile Narcy is a trail version of the mountain spirit.
17 to 23 August - Tour des 6 Vallées de l'Oisans: 100 Alpine miles
An ultra-trail adventure over seven days, six stages, and 170km of 10,000m D+ through some of the most spectacular scenery in the Oisans region. A long-term immersion in the mountains, with Alpe d'Huez as one of the highlights.
21 to 23 August - Climbing for Life: sport and solidarity
Climbing for Life offers three days of cycling, trail running and hiking on the peaks of the Oisans region. Ten routes, an accessible and friendly atmosphere, and a cause: part of the registration fee is donated to the Ligue du Diabète and Sport to Change Diabetes.
30 August - Les Mystères de l'Huez: climbing and conviviality
At an altitude of 2,000 m, around Lac Besson, climbing enthusiasts get together for a day of climbing and sharing. Organised by the Fédération Française de la Montagne et de l'Escalade, Les Mystères de l'Huez combines performance and festive spirit in an exceptional natural setting.
