It's a date already engraved in people's memories: on Friday 25 July 2025, an intense stage will take the riders from the town of Albertville to Plagne Villages, culminating at an altitude of 2,052 metres.
This 130-kilometre 100% stage in Savoie, with its demanding programme of 4,500 metres of climbing, will be the last major mountain challenge before the flat stages. After four climbs, the riders will face a final 19.1km climb, punctuated by 24 bends, before crossing the finish line.
Thierry Gouvenou, technical director of the Tour, describes this stage as "short but intense, a concentrated mountain experience". and a last chance for the favourites to overturn the general classification. The question is: who will succeed previous winners at La Plagne, such as Laurent Fignon (1984 and 1987), Alex Zülle (1995) and Michael Boogerd (2002)?
La Plagne will also host the Tour stage
For Jean-Luc Boch, Mayor of La Plagne Tarentaise, "This return is a perfect opportunity to promote La Plagne as a summer cycling destination. This stage will build on the momentum created in 2021 by hosting a finish of the Critérium du Dauphiné, consolidating the resort's cycling potential.
As well as the stage finish, La Plagne will also host the Stage of the Tour on 20 July, when some 16,000 fans will set off on the same course.
The resort is now focusing on its summer development with a wide range of mountain bike facilities, including the Plagne Centre bike park and its courses accessible by VTTAE (electrically-assisted mountain bikes).
The destination is hoping to establish itself as a must for mountain bikers, attracting amateurs and professionals alike, such as the Alpecin-Deceuninck team, who have already found it an ideal setting for their oxygenation courses.
