Nestling at the foot of the Galibier, Valloire is not just about its ski slopes and snow-covered landscapes. This winter, the Savoyard resort is offering a range of original experiences that invite you to rediscover the mountains in a whole new way: unusual overnight stays, gourmet getaways and original sporting activities.
1. Sleeping in a tiny house
At the Sainte-Thècle campsite, eight wooden tiny houses welcome holidaymakers for a cosy change of scenery.
Inspired by the American concept, these small 24 m² houses (including 11 m² on the mezzanine) combine modernity and warmth, with a fully-equipped kitchen, shower room, large windows to the outside and a cocooning atmosphere. This unusual accommodation can sleep up to 4 people, and costs from €455 a week.
2. Running at altitude with Lucie Bidault
A well-known trail runner, Lucie Bidault is offering to help small groups and athletes discover snow running this winter.
Between adjusting your stride, managing your effort and contemplating the scenery, the experience is as technical as it is friendly. There are three weekly sessions: Monday evenings (6pm-7.30pm), Wednesdays and Thursday mornings (9.30am-12noon). Equipment can be loaned and transport provided.
3. Fondue in a rucksack
The restaurant Kosa Kruta reinvents the mountain picnic with its "Jean-Claude Duss" rucksack. Inside: everything you need to enjoy a traditional fondue in the great outdoors.
Valley cheeses (Beaufort, Tomme de Valloire), white wine, bread, stove, fondue pot, tablecloth and cushions... all you need to do is find the perfect spot to share an unusual meal. There's also an all-inclusive version with cold meats and sparkling wine. From €15 per person.
4. A night in a tipi
For total immersion, head to the hamlet of Bonnenuit and "L'Insolite de Pierre Rouge". Here, you won't find a traditional chalet: you'll sleep in a large tepee heated by a wood-burning stove, surrounded by snow and stars.
Sleeping six, this simple, cosy refuge will appeal to lovers of authenticity and escape. It costs €90 per night for two people.
