From 26 to 28 July 2024, the departmental astronomy festival Astro'Valberg is back for its 5th edition.
The festival was launched in 2020 and is organised by the Alpes-Maritimes département. This year's 5th edition is sponsored by physicist and philosopher Étienne Klein.

This weekend will be an opportunity to celebrate space and the riches of the starry sky in an immense environment, perched at an altitude of 1700m. Thousands of visitors turned out last year.

The festival also raises awareness among young and old alike of the importance of respecting our heritage by informing them about light pollution and protecting biodiversity.

The festival will be hosting clubs to find out all about the fascinating world of astronomy. Visitors will be able to attend planetarium sessions in the Mercantour gardens and take part in a host of activities for all the family.

The area has become France's third International Dark Sky Reserve (RICE), following on from the Pic du Midi and Cévennes National Park reserves, which were classified in 2013 and 2018 respectively.

This organisation rewards areas with exceptional night sky quality and encourages them to take action to reduce light pollution and preserve their night skies.
