The mountains offer breathtaking panoramas, and France has no shortage of spectacular peaks to admire them from. Whether you're a keen hiker or simply looking for a breathtaking view, these five mountain panoramas are well worth a visit.
1. The summit of Puy de Sancy (Massif Central)
The Puy de Sancy, the highest volcano in the Massif Central, rises to 1886 metres and offers a breathtaking 360° panorama. The ascent begins with a vertiginous cable car ride from Le Mont-Dore station, covering more than 450 metres in just 4 minutes. After that, it's a 20-minute walk up a wooden staircase to the summit. From here, an orientation table will help you spot the Cézallier, the Monts du Cantal, the Monts Dore and the Chaîne des Puys. Welcome to the roof of the Auvergne!

2. The Aiguille du Midi (Chamonix)
For exceptional views of the Alps, the Aiguille du Midi is a must. Situated at an altitude of 3,842 metres, this summit can be reached by cable car from Chamonix. Once at the top, the panorama of Mont Blanc and the surrounding Alps is breathtaking. For the more daring, the "Pas dans le vide" awaits you: a totally transparent glass overhang suspended above the void at over 1,000 metres. Vertigo guaranteed!

3. Le Puy Mary (Cantal)
Nestling among the mountains of the Cantal, Puy Mary, culminating at 1783 metres, is classified as a Grand site de France. Access is by car to the Pas de Peyrol pass, followed by a 30-minute walk to the summit. The panorama from the summit is magnificent, with lush vegetation in shades of yellow and green, and a breathtaking view of the Auvergne volcanoes. A real natural gem for lovers of lush green landscapes.

4. The Pic du Midi (Hautes-Pyrénées))
At an altitude of more than 2,800 metres, the Pic du Midi offers incredible views of the Pyrenees mountain range. Easily accessible thanks to a cable car from La Mongie, this summit is a prime destination for admiring the mountains. In the evening, the Pic du Midi is also a great place to watch the stars from its terrace, a unique spectacle not to be missed.

5. The Mescla balconies (Gorges du Verdon)
The Gorges du Verdon, with their exotic atmosphere, are a natural wonder not to be missed. The Mescla balconies, 250 metres above the left bank of the Gorges, offer breathtaking views of this grandiose landscape. Accessible from the commune of Aiguines via the D71, it's an ideal vantage point from which to enjoy the striking contrast between the cliffs and the lush vegetation. After admiring the view, why not head back down for a refreshing swim?
