À Oz 3300, far from traditional hotels and resort lights, a unique experience invites you to sleep outside, under the stars, in near absolute silence. At an altitude of 2,100 metres, on the Lacs d'Oz plateau, the «1000 stars» is not an establishment in the traditional sense of the term, but a rare interlude, halfway between guided bivouac and contemplative interlude.
Nestling at an altitude of 1,350 metres, the pedestrian resort of Oz 3300 has long cultivated a gentle, authentic approach to the mountains. This winter offer takes the immersive experience even further, inviting visitors to spend a whole night in the heart of the massif, far from standard comfort, but as close as possible to the essentials.
The adventure begins at the end of the day. Equipped with snowshoes, poles and headlamps, participants gradually leave the resort in the company of a guide from the Bureau des Guides de l'Alpe d'Huez.
The ascent takes place slowly, in the fading light, through forests and snow-covered valleys, to the Lacs d'Oz plateau, perched at 2,100 metres. The pace is deliberately slow, conducive to observation and disconnection.
On site, there are no chalets or traditional huts, but a carefully prepared camp. The equipment is transported upstream by the guides: insulating mattresses, cold-weather duvets and the equipment needed to spend the night in good conditions.
A paradise for lovers of unusual experiences
The comfort is not that of a hotel, but of an experience designed to be simple, warm and reassuring. The evening continues with a convivial dinner of local produce, shared under an often spectacular sky.
When the clouds dissipate, the sky becomes the real backdrop: constellations, absolute silence, the rare sensation of being alone in front of the mountain.
When you wake up, the cold stings slightly, but there's something unreal about the moment. The day slowly rises over the peaks, revealing the relief of the Oisans in the soft light. After a leisurely breakfast, the group set off on their snowshoes, leaving behind this ephemeral, trackless bivouac, true to the spirit of the place.
Accessible to 13-year-olds and over, this night «at 1,000 stars» is just as much for fans of unusual experiences as it is for mountain lovers in search of silence and authenticity. The activity is offered from 6 December 2025 to 19 April 2026, depending on snow conditions.
