The message is clear: every piece of rubbish collected counts. To mark World Clean Up Day, the Haute Tarentaise Community of Communes is renewing its commitment to raising awareness of environmental protection among the younger generation.
Last year, despite the capricious weather, 440 pupils and their carers took part in five schools across the region.
The result: more than 337 kilos of waste collected in the participating municipalities. A clear demonstration of the impact that collective action can have, even on a local scale.
An expanded 2025 edition
This year, the campaign is getting bigger. Seven schools are joining the initiative to take part in this major clean-up operation: the Centre school, the Petite Planète school and the Sainte-Bernadette school in Bourg-Saint-Maurice, the Vulmix school, the Sainte-Foy Tarentaise school, the Tignes school and the Val d'Isère school.
The collections will take place between mid-September and mid-October, each organised over one day. The aim is to get even more children and families involved in the fight against litter.
Created in 2018, World Clean Up Day has become a global event to combat littering. In the Haute Tarentaise, it has a particular resonance: the mountains, fragile and precious, are also suffering the effects of pollution.
An invitation to all residents
The communauté de communes would like to remind everyone that this initiative is not just for schools. Residents are also invited to organise their own neighbourhood collections.
The Waste Reduction and Sorting Department supports all initiatives, reminding people that "no action is too small" when it comes to protecting the environment.
