In the valley of Serre Chevalier BriançonCalves are warming up and wheels are squealing with anticipation. All summer long, the roads, trails and mountain pastures will be buzzing with the rhythm of two-wheelers. With world-class events, legendary routes reserved for cyclists, innovative bike parks and specially adapted accommodation, it's sure to be a total experience for enthusiasts and the curious alike.
The opening event is the Alps Epic, from 21 to 24 June. This marathon mountain bike race, now included in the UCI calendar, crosses the Hautes-Alpes over five stages, including two in the valley: on 23 June, a 62.6km loop between Saint-Chaffrey and the Col du Lautaret, followed by a demanding route to Montgenèvre the next day.
A physical challenge, but also a magnificent plunge into the wild landscapes of the ski area, transformed into a summer showcase for seasoned mountain bikers.
From 26 to 28 August, it's time for the elegance of the road with the Haute Route, a prestigious event for amateur cyclists following in the footsteps of the pros. Three intense days await the riders: arrival at Serre Chevalier on August 26 via the Col du Galibier, looping over the Col de l'Izoard from Briançon on the 27th, then a departure for Italy on August 28 to reach Cuneo. Same sporting tempo, different atmosphere.
On the same day, 26 August, the legendary Vuelta will cross the border from Italy for the first time, crossing Briançon and Serre Chevalier before climbing the Lautaret. A historic moment for the famous Spanish race, which celebrates its 90th anniversary this year.
An evolving bike park
And for all those who dream of climbing the highest peaks at their own pace, the reserved passes are back. The principle: roads closed to cars from 9am to 12pm, friendly refreshment points, a unique atmosphere and unforgettable panoramas. On the agenda: Col du Galibier (30 June, 17 July, 5 August) and Col du Granon (1 July, 16 July, 13 August).
