La Plagne has a thousand faces. There are the great white expanses, the summits you reach at dawn, but also the intimate escapes where you finally slow down. There, between a silent pine forest, a crackling fireplace and a wooden table with the patina of time, the mountains are experienced differently: simpler, gentler, almost secret.
Let's take a look at three of our favourite places to set down your suitcases and let winter do its work.
1. Chalet du Bresson
On the Soleil slope, a narrow path wanders between larches and spruces before revealing this forest house that looks like something out of a winter fairytale. Le Chalet du Bresson cultivates the art of comfort with a generous table, inspired by the Savoyard recipes of yesteryear. The apple Mattafán, a souvenir of grandma's kitchens, arrives warm and golden, like a madeleine with the scent of mountain pastures.
Here, the silence is disturbed only by a snow shovel, a muffled footstep on the balcony or the start of a path that invites you to go hiking. You eat your lunch facing the mountains, let the light stream across the tablecloth, and you'll understand what it means to take your time. A haven of simplicity, in the heart of unspoilt nature.
2. Montana Huttopia chalets
At Champagny-le-Haut, the listed valley unfurls its white mantle as far as the wooden chalets nestling under the branches. Visit Huttopia Montana chalets reinvent winter comfort with their purring stove, roof that almost reaches the ground and warmth that envelops you from the moment you enter.
Just eight huts on the edge of the forest, right next to the ice tower. At night, only the glow of garlands and the creak of wood remind us that we are not alone in the great silence of the Alps. A confidential address, designed for those who dream of a winter in chalet mode, with a log fire and fresh snow on the doorstep.
3. Chalet du Friolin
Perched above Montchavin-Les Coches, at an altitude of 1,800 metres, the Chalet du Friolin exudes authenticity. Here, you arrive with skis on, push open the door still dusted with snow, and you'll find a crackling lounge, as if to welcome you. The wooden room, the warm light, the friendly glances around the bar... everything invites you to extend the day.
Settle down by the fireplace, savour the generous mountain cuisine, then head back to your room in total peace and quiet. In the morning, the snow still bears the traces of the night, and you leave through the doorway, skis already on. Sleep on the slopes, to the rhythm of the sun and the silence, like in a refuge but with the comfort of a warm home.
