When the snow gives way to flower-filled mountain pastures, Val d'Is\u00e8re<\/a> is transformed into a veritable summer playground, punctuated by a multitude of events celebrating nature, sport, traditions and culture. From June to August, the high-altitude resort offers a host of not-to-be-missed events.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sport and nature in majesty<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

From 13 June (subject to availability), the opening of the Col de l'Iseran marks the start of the summer season. At an altitude of 2770 metres, Europe's highest road pass offers a spectacular backdrop, a favourite with cyclists from all over the world. Two-wheeled enthusiasts can climb the pass in majestic silence, in the heart of the breathtaking Vanoise landscapes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From 5 to 13 July, trail runners will take over with the High Trail Vanoise<\/strong>a real sporting challenge in the high mountains. A month later, on 16 and 17 August, Val d'Is\u00e8re will host the French Trail Championships<\/strong>confirming its status as a benchmark destination for high-altitude races. With its technical and aerial courses in the heart of nature reserves, the resort offers athletes a unique training ground at an altitude of 1850 metres.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the nature front, July 16 will be devoted to the Environment Day<\/strong> This year's event will involve a large-scale rubbish collection on the slopes, accompanied by educational activities, fun workshops and a convivial meal. It's a way of raising awareness among holidaymakers and locals alike of the need to preserve this exceptional area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Traditions, music and festivities on the programme<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Summer in Val d'Is\u00e8re also means rediscovering mountain traditions. On 26 and 27 July, the Vieux Val Festival <\/strong>will plunge the village into a festive, folkloric atmosphere: a popular dance, fireworks, a fancy dress parade, a garage sale and entertainment for all will punctuate the weekend. Then, on August 2 and 3, the Avaline Savoyard Fair<\/strong> will be celebrating its 20\u1d49 edition, bringing together over 90 exhibitors from the two Savoies and Piedmont to showcase local crafts in the village lanes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Music can also be heard at altitude with the Musica Ricercata Festival<\/strong> from 29 to 31 July. For three days, families will be able to enjoy concerts in the heart of nature at Lac de l'Ouillette, Joseray and La Daille, in breathtaking surroundings. Then, on August 24, the summer season comes to a gentle close around Lac de l'Ouillette with the traditional fishermen's meal, accompanied by music, at the Ouillette Festival<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Throughout the summer, Val d'Is\u00e8re also offers a number of regular events to punctuate the holidays: Tuesdays with music, the Thursday tombola, shows for children and families, fishing competitions, visits to the farm and the village, not forgetting guided walks, eco-treks and guided tours of the Col de l'Iseran.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
