The Via project 3 ValleysThis ambitious initiative to link the main resorts in the Three Valleys by routes dedicated entirely to cycling is gradually making headway. This ambitious initiative, aimed at linking the main resorts in the 3 Valleys by roads entirely dedicated to cycling, is gradually making headway. But how far have we really got?

As Gilles Leonard, Director of Méribel Tourisme, points out, mountain biking is gaining in popularity, whether it's road cycling or mountain biking. "We're thinking about a complete cycling circuit in the 3 Valleys. It's a serious project that we're working on", he recently told us.

The idea was to offer enthusiasts a flagship product that would live up to the 3 Vallées' reputation, although it would be difficult to compare it with the popularity of winter sports.

A project nearing completion

In the other resorts, the project is progressing at its own pace, although there are still some crucial stages to be completed. Marlène Giacometti, director of the Saint-Martin-de-Belleville and Les Menuires tourist offices, points out that only a short section is needed to complete the loop.

"A link still needs to be created between Mottaret, the summit of Saint-Martin-de-Belleville and the Tête de Tougnète. (about 7-8 km). " Once this section has been completed, the entire route will be ready to welcome cyclists and major events such as the Tour de France.

Courchevel has already launched its own section, with a track leading up to the Col de la Loze and then down to Méribel-Mottaret. This tarmac route, which is closed to cars, offers cyclists a unique and safe area, just as the entire Via 3 Vallées could become. It has already welcomed the Tour de France peloton on several occasions.

A Unique Product for the Region

Once completed, the Via 3 Vallées project would become an unprecedented asset for cycling in the Alps. With a track dedicated exclusively to bikes, the 3 Vallées aims to become a leading destination not only for skiers in winter, but also for cyclists in summer.

A huge playground would open up to them, with the promise of grandiose panoramas and sporting challenges on a par with the finest Alpine passes.

All that's needed now is a handful of kilometres for this huge cycle route to see the light of day. Local players firmly believe in the project, and there is no doubt that it will offer a unique experience to all cycling enthusiasts. By summer 2025? To be continued.
