From 26 to 28 July 2024, the departmental astronomy festival Astro'Valberg <\/em>is back for its 5th edition.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The festival was launched in 2020 and is organised by the Alpes-Maritimes d\u00e9partement. This year's 5th edition is sponsored by physicist and philosopher \u00c9tienne Klein.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This weekend will be an opportunity to celebrate space and the riches of the starry sky in an immense environment, perched at an altitude of 1700m. Thousands of visitors turned out last year.<\/p>\n\n\n

The festival also raises awareness among young and old alike of the importance of respecting our heritage by informing them about light pollution and protecting biodiversity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The festival will be hosting clubs to find out all about the fascinating world of astronomy. Visitors will be able to attend planetarium sessions in the Mercantour gardens and take part in a host of activities for all the family. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The area has become France's third International Dark Sky Reserve (RICE), following on from the Pic du Midi and C\u00e9vennes National Park reserves, which were classified in 2013 and 2018 respectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Founded in 1988 and recognised worldwide, the American International Dark-Sky Association (IDA) aims to combat light pollution, which has a particularly harmful impact on nocturnal biodiversity. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
